The USDA has recently released an all new food pyramid
which reflects the latest recommendations of daily food
intake for Americans. The
change is from a horizontally divided pyramid to one
that is divided into colorful vertical sections sized
to represent the amount of each type of food a person
should eat each day. In essence, these changes represent
the need for increased exercise, less calories, and
wholesome nutrition.
Also, a recent study by Michigan State
University epidemiologist, Mathew Reeves found that
very few Americans are doing all they can to maintain
a healthy life. The research, which was published in
the April 25 issue of the journal Archives of Internal
Medicine, found that only 3 percent
undertook four basic steps that define a healthy lifestyle
– not smoking, holding weight down, eating right
and exercising. It's time to make a change, America.
Cherokee Pharmacy agrees with Reeves,
this is a situation that could have dire consequences
if it doesn’t change. Reeves states, “We
are not proactive enough in challenging people to incorporate
physical activity and other aspects of healthy lifestyles
into their everyday lives."
